A lot of friends have been asking "How is Sharon (MOM) doing?" As you know, she had hip revision surgery on her right hip. So on December 31st, they removed her old hip device and since then she has been without a right hip. She has been confined to our living room and bed most of the time. Of course, as you can see from the picture, she has received excellent care.....besides her nurse is quite handsome.... But she goes back to have her new hip put in on April 1st. After about 8 - 10 weeks of rehab, she will be back out playing with Matilda and I. We are looking forward to that!!! She did want me to "Thank" everyone who sent along kind words, thoughts and prayers. I especially want to thank everyone that sent us food.....don't tell Dad - but it was better than what he made..... Okay - I have to run the work around the farm is never done.....talk to you soon!!!
So good to see you are in good hands (paws) Sharon, hope you have a great recovery. Thinking of you.
Sharon’s cousin, Mike Slane, had his hip replacement taken out 2/5/15, and a temporary (spacer) hip inserted at that time. He has been battling a staph infection in the joint for the last 18-24 months. They talked about taking everything out and leaving it out, which it sounds like was done with Sharon. His orthopedic surgeon decided to try and get something temporary in and keep him up and moving around. This was Mike’s 9th left hip surgery and it was a rough one. Recovery is going slowly and he is back on a PIC line. Had they gone the route of no prosthesis for 8-12 weeks, as it seems they have done with Sharon, they said he would have to remain in a skilled nursing facility for the duration. I thought I would share his story in hopes of getting more details about Sharon’s. Did she have an infection and, if so, when was the onset of the infection? We wish her all the best in this process. -Bev Slane
Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Lynn – Thanks, while not looking forward to another surgery. I am looking forward to the 1st and having a hip back again so I can start on the road to full recovery.
Bev – Please say “Hello” to Mike for me. My main problem was that the hip cup had worked itself loose and then an infection took hold. Nothing major – but enough to have to be treated. I received word this week that after a few weeks of antibiotics – the infection is gone and we are on target to have the hip device replaced the 1st of April. So looking forward to that…So it doesn’t sound like i had as many problems as Mike….Hope all goes well for him. Our surgeon here has handled this very well and been excellent to deal with. He did David’s hip replacement as well. Please let us know how Mike makes out……
Gail – Thanks for your good wishes……
